When and where was our National Anthem first sung?

The National Anthem of India, 'Jana Gana Mana', was composed by Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore and was first sung publicly on December 27, 1911, during the Calcutta (Kolkata) session of the Indian National Congress [t1][t2][t7]. While the song was adopted as the official National Anthem by the Constituent Assembly on January 24, 1950, its historical debut occurred nearly four decades earlier at the 1911 session [c1][t5][t9]. The first rendition was introduced as a patriotic composition during the anti-colonial movement [t9]. Although some controversies initially suggested it was a tribute to King George V, Tagore later clarified it was a hymn to the 'Dispenser of India's destiny' [t5]. The song consists of five stanzas, with the first stanza being the version officially adopted as the anthem [t7].
