Who destroyed the Empire of Chalukyas of Badami ?

Result
Your answer: —  Â·  Correct: D
Explanation

The Empire of the Chalukyas of Badami (Vatapi) was destroyed by the Rashtrakutas. Originally feudatories of the Chalukyas, the Rashtrakutas rose to power under Dantidurga [c1, t4]. Dantidurga defeated the last Badami Chalukya ruler, Kirtivarman II, around 753 CE, as recorded in the Samangadh inscription [t1, t8]. While the Pallavas under Narasimhavarman I had previously occupied Badami and killed Pulakesin II in the 7th century, they did not permanently destroy the empire, as the Chalukyas later recovered [c2, c5]. The final collapse was orchestrated by the Rashtrakutas; Dantidurga's successor, Krishna I, dealt the 'final death nail' by routing the remaining Chalukya forces in 757 CE, effectively ending the dynasty's rule and establishing Rashtrakuta dominance in the Deccan for over two centuries [t2, t9].
