The demographic history of India is categorized into four distinct phases of growth. Phase I (1901–1921) is known as the stagnant phase due to high birth and death rates [2]. Phase II, covering the decades 1921–1951, is specifically referred to as the period of steady population growth [2]. During this time, improvements in health and sanitation led to a decline in mortality rates, while birth rates remained high, resulting in a consistent increase in population [2]. Following this, Phase III (1951–1981) was characterized by a population explosion or rapid growth, with decadal growth rates exceeding 20 percent. Finally, Phase IV (1981–2011) showed a high growth rate but with a clear declining trend as fertility began to fall. Therefore, the period of steady growth is 1921–1951.
