The Durand Line is the international border demarcation that separates Afghanistan and Pakistan. It was established in 1893 following an agreement between Sir Mortimer Durand, representing British India, and Amir Abdur Rahman Khan of Afghanistan [1]. Originally intended to define the frontier between the British Empire and Afghanistan to secure a 'scientific frontier,' the line divided the Pashtun and Baluch tribal regions [4]. Following the partition of British India in 1947, the newly formed state of Pakistan inherited this boundary. While Pakistan and the international community recognize it as the official border, successive Afghan governments have historically disputed its legitimacy, claiming the agreement was imposed under duress. A small portion of the line also technically touches Indian territory in the region of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir.
