Thomas Babington Macaulay, serving as the first Law Member of the Governor-General's Council from 1834 to 1838, made two monumental contributions to British India [1]. While his 1835 'Minute on Indian Education' advocated for Western education through the medium of English, his other landmark achievement was the drafting of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) [2]. As the chairman of the first Law Commission established in 1834, Macaulay prepared the draft of the IPC in 1837.
