Your answer: —  Â·  Correct: A
Explanation

Thomas Babington Macaulay, serving as the first Law Member of the Governor-General's Council from 1834 to 1838, made two monumental contributions to British India [1]. While his 1835 'Minute on Indian Education' advocated for Western education through the medium of English, his other landmark achievement was the drafting of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) [2]. As the chairman of the first Law Commission established in 1834, Macaulay prepared the draft of the IPC in 1837. This draft aimed to codify and unify the diverse criminal laws prevalent in India at the time, emphasizing the Whig tradition of equality before the law. Although the code was drafted in the late 1830s, it eventually came into force in January 1860, forming the bedrock of the modern Indian legal system.
