Alauddin Khalji captured the Delhi throne after securing fabulous wealth from—

Alauddin Khalji, while serving as the governor of Kara under his uncle Sultan Jalaluddin Khalji, launched a daring and unauthorized raid on Devagiri (Deogiri) in 1296 [c2][t1]. Devagiri was the capital of the wealthy Yadava kingdom in the Deccan. The expedition yielded a fabulous amount of booty, including gold, silver, and precious jewels [c1][t5]. Alauddin kept this conquest undisclosed from the Sultan because he intended to use the plundered wealth to finance his claim to the throne [t8]. After returning to Kara, he treacherously assassinated Jalaluddin Khalji and used the massive wealth from Devagiri to bribe the nobles and win over the army, effectively securing his path to the Delhi throne [t3][t5][t7]. While he later campaigned in Gujarat, Chanderi, and Madurai, it was specifically the 1296 Devagiri wealth that facilitated his initial accession.
