The following persons came to India at one time or another : I. Fa-Hien II. I-Tsing III. Megasthenese IV. Hieun-Tsang The correct chronological sequence of their visits is :
Explanation
Megasthenes, the Greek ambassador to the Mauryan court, visited India in the late 4th/early 3rd century BCE, making him the earliest among the four travelers listed. Fa‑Hien (Faxian) travelled to India in the early 5th century CE on a Buddhist pilgrimage and collected texts, placing him centuries after Megasthenes [1]. Hiuen‑Tsang (Xuanzang) came in the 7th century CE, studied at Nalanda and spent many years in India, situating him after Faxian [1]. I‑Tsing (Yijing) visited India after Xuanzang (late 7th–early 8th century CE), studying at Nalanda as well, so he is the latest of the four. Thus the chronological order is III, I, IV, II (option 2).
