A lady is standing in front of a plane mirror at a distance of 1 m from it. She walks 60 cm towards the mirror. The distance of her image now from herself (ignoring the thickness of the mirror) is
Explanation
In a plane mirror, the distance of the image from the mirror is always equal to the distance of the object from the mirror [1]. Initially, the lady is standing 1 m (100 cm) in front of the mirror, meaning her image is also 100 cm behind the mirror. When she walks 60 cm towards the mirror, her new distance from the mirror becomes 100 cm - 60 cm = 40 cm. According to the laws of reflection for plane mirrors, her image will now also be at a distance of 40 cm behind the mirror. The total distance between the lady and her image is the sum of her distance from the mirror and the image's distance from the mirror. Therefore, the final distance is 40 cm + 40 cm = 80 cm.
