The country was Georgia. In August 2008 the Georgian parliament adopted a resolution terminating its participation in the CIS agreements, and on 18 August 2008 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs notified the CIS Executive Committee of Georgia’s decision to withdraw following the Russo–Georgian conflict. Under the CIS Charter the termination of membership takes effect 12 months after written notification, so Georgia’s formal cessation of CIS membership was recorded a year later, on 18 August 2009 [1]. These contemporary official and press accounts identify Georgia as the sole full member to exit the CIS in the latter half of 2008.
