Take the case of dignity and equal rights for women. How do democracies help ?

Democracies facilitate the struggle for women's rights by establishing the principle of equality as a legal and moral norm. While women are not always treated with respect in practice, the recognition of this principle provides a legal basis to challenge discrimination [2]. In non-democratic systems, the lack of such legal norms means that individual freedom and dignity lack the necessary force to sustain a struggle against unacceptability [2]. Although democracies are generally better at safeguarding rights than autocracies, they do not guarantee immediate equal representation or the absence of social discrimination [2]. Instead, democracy provides the framework where rights are guaranteed by the constitution and laws, making it easier for disadvantaged groups to claim equal status and opportunity [2]. This legal foundation transforms the demand for dignity from a moral claim into a enforceable legal right [2].
