The Independence for India League was founded by the radical, younger wing of the Congress because they opposed the Nehru Report’s compromise of accepting dominion status. Contemporary accounts state that Jawaharlal Nehru and Subhash Bose, along with other younger leaders, regarded the dominion-status formulation in the Nehru Report as a step backward and were angered by its adoption; in response they rejected the Congress’s modified goal and jointly set up the Independence for India League to press for complete independence (purna swaraj) rather than dominion status [2].
