Local supply of coal is not available to

Among the four plants, the three public/private steel works cited obtain coal from proximate coalfields: TISCO at Jamshedpur draws coking coal from the Jharia and Bokaro fields [1]; Durgapur Steel obtains coal from the nearby Raniganj field in the Damodar valley [2]; and Bhilai receives coal from Korba as well as Bokaro and Jharia, all relatively regional sources [3]. By contrast, Visvesvaraya Steel (VSL) at Bhadravati (Karnataka) is located away from India’s major coalfields and historically has depended on coal transported from distant mines rather than a local supply, so local coal supply is not available to VSL Bhadravati.
