CFL stands for Compact Fluorescent Lamp. It is a type of energy-efficient lighting designed to replace traditional incandescent bulbs [1]. Unlike incandescent lamps that use a glowing filament to produce light, CFLs utilize fluorescent technology where electricity activates a gas, such as argon and mercury vapor, which then interacts with a phosphor coating inside the tube to emit visible light. The term 'compact' refers to the design where the fluorescent tube is folded or spiraled to fit into the same standard sockets used by incandescent bulbs. CFLs are significantly more efficient, consuming much less power and lasting 6 to 15 times longer than traditional lamps [1]. While they have been widely used to save electrical energy, they are increasingly being replaced by even more efficient Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology [1].
