When an object is immersed in a fluid, it experiences an upward force known as buoyancy or upthrust [2]. This phenomenon occurs because the pressure in a fluid increases with depth, resulting in a greater upward force on the bottom of the object than the downward force on its top [3]. The net result of these pressure differences is a single resultant force acting vertically upwards. According to Archimedes' principle, the magnitude of this buoyant force is equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by the object. While buoyancy arises from pressure differences, it is defined physically as a force, measured in Newtons [3]. If this upward buoyant force equals the object's weight, the object floats; if the weight exceeds the buoyant force, the object sinks [1].
