The Nokrek Biosphere Reserve is located in the state of Meghalaya, specifically within the Garo Hills region [1]. It was established as a Biosphere Reserve in 1988 and was later included in the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves in May 2009 [1]. The reserve is situated near Tura Peak and spans across the West, East, and South Garo Hills districts. It is ecologically significant for being a biodiversity hotspot and housing the Nokrek National Park as its core area. The region is famous for the 'Citrus Indica' (wild orange), leading to the establishment of the National Citrus Gene Sanctuary within the reserve. Additionally, it serves as a critical habitat for endangered species such as the Red Panda and Asian Elephant.
