The monsoon arrives in early June at the Kerala coast and gradually spreads across the entire country, with the windward side of the Western Ghats and the north-eastern regions receiving exceptionally heavy rainfall [1]. While other sources like the North-east Monsoon (or Retreating Monsoon) provide crucial rain to the southern peninsula, particularly Tamil Nadu, and Western Disturbances bring winter rain to the northwest, their overall contribution is significantly lower than the South-west Monsoon [3].
