The Krishna Raja Sagara (KRS) Dam and its associated reservoir are developed on the Kavery (Cauvery) River in the Mandya district of Karnataka [1][2]. Constructed between 1911 and 1932 during the reign of Maharaja Krishna Raja Wadiyar IV of Mysore, the dam is situated below the confluence of the Kaveri with its tributaries, the Hemavati and Lakshmana Tirtha [2][4]. While the name 'Krishna' in the dam's title refers to the Mysore ruler, the dam is geographically distinct from the Krishna River, which is dammed further north to form the Nagarjun-Sagar Reservoir [1][2]. The KRS dam serves as a primary source of drinking water for Mysore and Bangalore and provides irrigation for large agricultural tracts in the region. It is also famous for the Brindavan Gardens located adjacent to it [2][4].
