Rickets is a skeletal disorder caused by a deficiency of Vitamin D, calcium, or phosphate. Vitamin D is crucial for the absorption of calcium and phosphorus from the gastrointestinal tract, which are necessary for building strong, healthy bones. A lack of this vitamin leads to the softening and weakening of bones in children, often resulting in permanent skeletal deformities such as bowed legs or a curved spine.

• Beriberi: Caused by a deficiency of Vitamin B1 (Thiamine).
• Scurvy: Caused by a deficiency of Vitamin C (Ascorbic acid).
• Pneumonia: An infection that inflames the air sacs in one or both lungs, typically caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi, rather than a nutritional deficiency.

In adults, a similar deficiency of Vitamin D results in a condition known as Osteomalacia.
