The detailed, complete high-resolution mapping of Antarctica was produced using data from Canada’s RADARSAT-1 satellite. The RADARSAT Image Map of Antarctica, released in 1999, was the first high-resolution map of the entire continent and is explicitly identified as the product of the RADARSAT-1 Antarctic Mapping Project (RAMP), a partnership led by the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) and NASA [1]. RADARSAT-1, developed by CSA, provided the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery used to create a continent-wide mosaic (down to ~25 m resolution) and to map ice features and ice-flow velocities, enabling the comprehensive Antarctic map [2]. Thus the satellites of Canada enabled the detailed mapping effort.
