Which one of the following is the correct chronological order of the battles fought in India in the 18th Century?
Explanation
The Battle of Ambur (mid-18th century) predates the major Bengal and Carnatic confrontations, followed by the Battle of Plassey in 1757 which marked the beginning of Company rule in Bengal [1]. After Plassey, the decisive encounter between the English and French at Wandiwash occurred on 22 January 1760, effectively ending French military ambitions in South India [2]. The sequence is completed by the Battle of Buxar on 22 October 1764, which consolidated Company power in Bengal and Bihar and secured Diwani rights soon after [3]. Therefore the correct chronological order is Ambur → Plassey → Wandiwash → Buxar (option 2).
