Where was the First Session of the Indian National Congress held in December 1885?

The first session of the Indian National Congress was held in Bombay (now Mumbai) in late December 1885. The meeting, originally scheduled for Poona but shifted because of a cholera outbreak, convened at Gokuldas Tejpal Sanskrit College (Gowalia Tank) from 28–31 December 1885 and was attended by 72 delegates; W. C. Bonnerjee was elected its first president. These details — location, venue, dates, delegate strength and the change from Poona — are recorded in contemporary accounts and institutional histories that identify Bombay as the site of the inaugural Congress. A.O. Hume is credited with initiating the formation of the body that became the INC [2].
