Q129 (IAS/2000) Science & Technology › Basic Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) › Quantitative aptitude topics Answer Verified

A rectangular water tank measures 15 m x 6 m at top and is 10 m deep. It is full of water. If water is drawn out lowering the level by 1 metre, how much of water has been drawn out ?

Result
Your answer:  ·  Correct: B
Explanation

For a rectangular tank the volume of liquid removed equals the base area times the fall in height: V = length × breadth × height drop. Here base area = 15 × 6 = 90 m² and the level falls by 1 m, so volume removed = 90 × 1 = 90 m³. Converting cubic metres to litres using 1 m³ = 1000 litres gives 90 × 1000 = 90,000 litres [1]. Therefore the amount of water drawn out is 90,000 litres, corresponding to option 2.
